Warhorn’s Execution Delayed
As previously reported, Warhorn, a widely used site for gaming convention signups, was under threat of being shut down on June 15 after its creator and maintainer of over 20 years said that he wanted to give up supporting it.
The maintainer, Brian Moseley, announced this week on Warhorn’s public Discord server that the deadline has been pushed back:
hi all. I understand that folks are anxious to get a definitive statement and concerned about events they're holding in the next few months. I hope to have something concrete to say soon about what comes next for warhorn.
in the meantime, I am committing to keeping warhorn up and running through september 30.
I know this just kicks the can down the road a bit, but I hope it takes the immediate pressure off.
With Warhorn given at least a few more months to live, users are encouraging each other to sign up for its Patreon. Warhorn reportedly requires $1500 per month to run, and the Patreon campaign, even after new patrons have joined, brings in less than a third of that.
Warhorn made the switch to Patreon in 2022. Before that, it was funded by premium memberships and voluntary contributions from the conventions that used it. It is unclear if new owners might return to that funding model.
